Gallup Poll on Romney’s Convention Speech…

Gallup found the Romney Speech to be the worst one since Bob Dole in 1996.

Gallup results:

That brings into question what the results of his speech will be. Since he outlined no real plans or potential policies but spent most of the speech just introducing himself and attacking Obama, Romney had a performance few will remember. As to memories, I’ll remember Clint Eastwood.

It is time to make the Lies the Republicans are telling vanish…

I was listening to someone on the TV this morning, Morning Joe, I guess (I was reading my e-mail and didn’t look up) who was saying that Americans (a group which you know from previous posts that I think I belong to) are against using Reconciliation to get Health Care Reform.

Well, there is some polling going on over at whipcongress.com that looks at a range of seven states across the political spectrum which comes up with results that I think are much more significant.

Here’s one:

If the Senate passes a health care reform bill that you consider to be beneficial to your family, would you object to the Senate’s use of “reconciliation” rules to pass that bill with a majority vote, or not?

I find North Dakota particularly interesting (although Senator Dorgan has now joined the Public Option letter) since it is used by the Republicans as an example of anti-Health Care legislation standing.  And look at Iowa… Tom Harkin hasn’t come on Board with the Public Option letter yet… maybe he should.

McClatchy survey finds huge support – 2 to 1 – for health care reform

Here are a couple of clips from Barry Sussman’s article from last Friday.

If we could get the Republicans to shut up, we might get to the truth.

Read the whole article after you scan the clips.

An opinion poll double take: On first blush, a McClatchy/Ipsos poll shows only a minority in favor of health care reform – but that’s because many in the survey want stronger measures than Obama is seeking.
I wrote recently about the outrageous fraud of Republican leaders citing public opinion as a reason to oppose health care reform.
Comes now (Feb. 26-28) a McClatchy/Ipsos poll of 1,076 people that on first glance offers rocks to sling at Obama.
“As of right now, do you favor or oppose the health care reform proposals presently being discussed?” Forty-one percent said they favored them, 47 percent said they were opposed, and the rest said they were unsure.
But the pollsters went a step further, asking those opposed – 509 people in all – if they were against the proposals because they “don’t go far enough to reform health care” or because they go too far.
The overall numbers switch to 59 percent in favor of health care reform, 30 percent against.

Poll: Lieberman Hated By Everyone In Connecticut After Health Care Debates

clipped from tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com

The new poll of Connecticut by Public Policy Polling (D) finds that independent Sen. Joe Lieberman’s approval rating is absolutely in the dumps after his actions in the health care debate, with him having antagonized every group imaginable by both weakening progressive efforts and then voting for the actual bill.
Lieberman’s overall approval rating is only 25%, with 67% disapproval. Democrats disapprove of him by 14%-81%, Republicans by 39%-48%, and independents by 32%-61%. Only 19% approve of his actions on the health care bill, with Democrats at 8%-80%, Republicans at 26%-55%, and independents at 30%-59%. Among those who support the bill, 84% disapprove of his handling of the issue, and in addition 52% of the people who don’t support the bill also disapprove of Lieberman’s actions.
“Joe Lieberman isn’t popular enough with the Democrats or the Republicans to receive their nomination for the Senate in 2012,” said PPP president Dean Debnam, in the polling memo.

And the Independents don’t like him, either.

Interesting Quinnipiac Poll Today…

…it looks better for Obama vis-a-vis the Republicans:

Republicans get their lowest grades since Obama was elected on several measures:
* Voters disapprove 64 – 25 percent of the way Republicans in Congress are doing their job, with 42 percent of Republican voters disapproving;
* Only 29 percent think Republicans on Capitol Hill are acting in good faith;
* Voters trust Obama more than Republicans 47 – 31 percent to handle health care;
* Voters 53 – 25 percent have an unfavorable opinion of the Republican Party.
* “President Barack Obama’s approval rating has held at 50 percent over the past two months of high-intensity debate on health care and other issues,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “And while the spotlight is on the President, Republicans are taking a public opinion pounding.”

Looks like his points are going up. What are the chances Afghanistan will bring him down again?

It Looks Like People A.) Want a Public Option in Healthcare and B.) Are Willing to Pay More For It.

The NY Times /CBS News Health Care Poll that came out yesterday should make it pretty clear to Congress that the American Public wants Real Health Care Reform, and not the Insurance Industry controlled farce that some of the leading Democrats (and virtually all the Republicans) are in favor of.

Partly because they know what side of the bread is buttered for them by corporate money in their election funds… partly because they are afraid to do something which radically changes the financial basis of health care and adds a real government involvement in it.

Let’s start by taking a look at the poll results:

NYT Poll

It is the changes from 2007 to the present which should stand out to those in Congress who are working on the legislation. It is clear that people WANT that public option… even though there are issues that have to be considered, but which certainly can be overcome – we’ve done it with the VA system. It is also clear that the issue of paying for it with taxes has become much more acceptable in the past two years. It’s also interesting how important providing health care to the uninsured is.

The big question here is whether the government will adhere to the will of the people, or just ignore it. The latter option is the one that is most likely to occur. Too bad. I’d certainly like to be surprised by a change.
