New GOP Bill Would Allow Hospitals To Let Women Die Instead Of Having An Abortion

It is hard to believe that “Pro-Life” does not include the life of the Mother. Republicans once again show their lack of morality and ethical consideration of living people.

This is part of the article from Talking Points Memo:

The controversy over “forcible rape” may be over, but now there’s a new Republican-sponsored abortion bill in the House that pro-choice folks say may be worse: this time around, the new language would allow hospitals to let a pregnant woman die rather than perform the abortion that would save her life.
The bill, known currently as H.R. 358 or the “Protect Life Act,” would amend the 2010 health care reform law that would modify the way Obamacare deals with abortion coverage.
But critics say a new language inserted into the bill just this week would go far beyond Stupak, allowing hospitals that receive federal funds but are opposed to abortions to turn away women in need of emergency pregnancy termination to save their lives.
The sponsor of H.R. 358, Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) is a vocal member of the House’s anti-abortion wing.

“This is really out there,” Donna Crane, policy director at NARAL Pro-Choice America told TPM. “I haven’t seen this before.”

Return To The Good Ol’ Days of Ignorance

Whiplash inducing quote of the day from Republican Mike Pence, speaking in Iowa:

To those who say we should focus on fiscal issues, instead of the right to life, I say, ‘What is more fiscally responsible than rolling back this administration’s effort to expand funding for abortion at home and abroad?’” Pence said.
“What is more fiscally responsible than denying any and all funding to Planned Parenthood of America?”
Could this guy be any more of an idiot?

Here is an excerpt from Planned Parenthood’s mission statement:
“We are a trusted health care provider, an informed educator, a passionate advocate, and a global partner helping similar organizations around the world.
For more than 90 years, Planned Parenthood has promoted a commonsense approach to women’s health and well-being, based on respect for each individual’s right to make informed, independent decisions about health, sex, and family planning.”
Yessir, Mr. Pence.  Let’s party like it’s 1920.

This article from Dr. Marty Klein is worth reading…

Even though the trial of Dr. George Tiller’s murderer is over, there are many questions still out there on how we deal with the “pro-life” terrorists… Here’s a clip, but go in and read the rest:

How Will Anti-Choice Forces Atone For George Tiller’s Murder?

The verdict is in: the guy who murdered physician George Tiller will spend the rest of his life in jail, feeling good about what he did.
Yes, the verdict shows that the justice system works, sometimes. But this doesn’t bring back Tiller. His family only had one of him. We have very few of him. The other side has plenty of Scott Roeders.
Roeder is a suicide bomber. He sacrificed his own life and blew up Tiller. No one can defeat a culture that produces suicide bombers. Almost a decade after 9/11, the mightiest military the world has ever seen hasn’t even made a dent.
While legally inevitable given the facts, the Roeder verdict is also unsatisfying because it doesn’t change anything. The government won’t protect physicians or clinics more. The anti-choice domestic terrorists won’t be punished as a group, won’t be fined out of existence, won’t even be discouraged an eighth of an inch.

Is this a surprise? Rosa De Lauro might go along with Senate’s abortion language…

The whole article that this is clipped from is in the HuffPo today”:

A key pro-choice House Democrat, working on health care in Congress, hinted on Monday that said she might be willing to support the Senate’s abortion language.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) who has been tasked by leadership with helping hammer out a compromise on abortion between the two chambers, said she was not thrilled with either the House or Senate legislation’s provisions. But in an interview with the Huffington Post, the Connecticut Democrat did say she would support the Senate’s version of abortion-related language provided that she could confirm her belief that it did not go beyond current law.
“There are some questions I still have,” DeLauro said. “And that’s why I want to see this side-by-side with the language. It’s not Stupak-Pitts [the House’s language]. So, it’s already [an improvement].”
DeLauro is one of the strongest champions for women’s reproductive rights in the House; her blessing over the Senate abortion language represents a potentially major concession.

DeLauro says:

“It would appear that you’ve got the Catholic Bishops who aren’t happy. But [Sen. Ben] Nelson (D-Neb.) found his way there as did Senator Bob Casey (D-Penn.) [both pro-life Democrats]. And the pro-choice side said, ‘We don’t like this as much as we would like to not deal with this language.’ But, you know, we’re not going to defeat health care.”

Conservatives seem to be heading us back to American manufacturer’s solutions for illegal abortions. Are we ready for this?
