Glen Greenwald has a well-informed article on Yemen and the US in this morning’s Salon…

Here is his summation – it should encourage you to go in and read the rest:

The campaign against the Park51 community center in Lower Manhattan is being condemned, rightfully so, because it is driven by a desire to stigmatize all Muslims and even institute a generalized war against Islam as American policy.  But far from Ground Zero, having nothing whatsoever to do with the warped right-wing fanatics driving that campaign, we’re increasingly engaging in actions perceived — understandably so — to be exactly the War against Muslims which, with our pretty presidential words, we renounce.  Escalation in Afghanistan, a sustained bombing campaign in Pakistan, all sorts of increased covert actions in multiple Muslim countries, the ongoing imprisonment with no charges of Muslims around the world, bellicose threats to Iran, and now a proposed expansion of our drone campaign into Yemen:  we can insist all we want that we are not waging a War Against Muslims, but it’s going to look to a huge number of people as though we’re doing exactly that.

So here we are with another Muslim country to accidentally kill women and children in and make them love us. Thanks, Glenn.

There is a good Forbes article on how the Mosque issue effects worldwide Muslim view of US…

Here are some clips, but I suggest you read the whole thing as this point of view is not being discussed on television:

The furor over the proposed Islamic cultural center and mosque near Ground Zero makes me think back to one of the most important lessons I learned from al Qaeda terrorists I interrogated–that they have a warped view of America. To them–and this they get from Osama Bin Laden‘s rhetoric–the U.S. is a country at war with Islam and Muslims, and so they had a duty to fight us.
While I was serving on the frontlines I found that this distorted view of America was common among ordinary Muslims too, and it was only by correcting this image did we encourage locals to help our investigations and turn against al Qaeda. Our efforts were helped by public statements, like from President Bush in the days after 9/11, declaring that America was at war with al Qaeda and not with Islam.
We should have been highlighting that al Qaeda has killed thousands of Muslims and blown up dozens of mosques around the world.
When we eventually did this, we had great successes.

Quote of the Day (Thanks to Deus Ex Malcontent)

“Screw ’em.”

— Joe Scarborough on the GOP if it doesn’t like the fact that he’s defending the proposed Islamic community center near Ground Zero

Quote of the Day – and I think it is unfortunate…

“The First Amendment protects freedom of religion. Senator Reid respects that, but thinks that the mosque should be built someplace else.”

– Jim Manley, spokesman for Senator Harry Reid

What we don’t need here is a Democrat that disagrees with the President. Unfortunately, Reid has to react based on his reelection campaign, not on the issue of Freedom of Religion.

Why complain about the Ground Zero Mosque and ignore the one in the Pentagon?

I guess the right wing didn’t know about it (even though the Washington Times had done an article on its existence as early as 2007.) Once again, we are in a campaign year bullshit sling…

Why did no one object to the “Pentagon mosque”?
Yes, Muslims have infiltrated the Pentagon for their nefarious, prayerful purposes — daring to practice their religion inside the building where 184 people died on Sept. 11, 2001. They haven’t even had the sensitivity to move two blocks, let alone a mile, away from that sacred site.
The “desecration” began shockingly soon after the attacks. Cox reported in October 2001:
Army Chaplain Abdul-Rasheed Muhammad, the first Muslim chaplain to serve in the military, read a verse from the Koran at the memorial service at the Pentagon on Thursday, exactly one month after the attack.
Any guesses as to why no one has ever heard about Muslims praying at the Pentagon — let alone cared? It’s almost as if the entire “ground zero mosque” controversy was whipped up out of nothing by a right-wing tabloid and politicians in search of a wedge issue …
