Happy St. Paddy’s – I’m over at WSHC for an early start…

Elliot Simon has to leave at 9:15,so I’m covering for his show and then mine at WSHC 89.7 FM (www.897wshc.org). Had to get up earlier than usual to put my show together, but it’s all set and I’m ready.

Elly and I are celebrating St. Patrick’s day by continuing to get stuff out of the old house and move it to the new one. Isn’t that exciting. We have some of the Shepherd U. Boys and a borrowed pickup truck tomorrow and I hope we get most of what’s left out (but I doubt that it is possible!)

Anyway, have a good morning and tune in if you can.

Under The LobsterScope once again asks for Your Help so we can keep going…

…but there’s something in it for you (beyond the daily blog goodies put out for your enjoyment):

Support this blog with $5.00 or more…

…and get “Bill’s Cast O’ Characters,” a great image font, based on authentic turn-of-the-century ornaments in the Barnhart Bros. & Spindler specimen book, e-mailed to you immediately.

So many of you have been following this blog since 2004 that I feel like a member of a huge web community.

I have enjoyed bringing you The Cartoon or Cartoons of the Week, the Quotes, the Political and Arts News, the Blogrolls to the best sites in America and beyond… They are all a joy to put together. Often we get the breaking political stories before you see them anywhere else. And our wide open communication channels with readers can’t be beat.

Well, once again, I need YOUR help to keep it going. I’m hoping you will make a small contribution, by PayPal or credit/debit card, in support of Under The LobsterScope. You’d be amazed at how much $5.00 can do to help me bring more and more to these pages. And it is probably the LOWEST annual subscription fee you will make to any publication… interactive or not.

And for a contribution of $5.00 (or MORE) you will receive a copy of my Picture Font, Bill’s Cast O’ Characters  – one of my very favorites and my most used.

(I send you the True Type versions for both Macs and PCs by email). I regularly sell this font for $29.95. (See the Sample Below.)

You should know, however, that even a contribution of only $1.00 adds to the ability of this unemployed blogger to find things for your benefit, and gives you my heartfelt thanks. By clicking on the DONATE button below, you tell me that Under The LobsterScope makes a difference in your time on the web.

Thanks,

– Bill T.

Please help support Under The LobsterScope… and get a free gift:

Hi friends. It’s getting more and more expensive to keep Under The LobsterScope operating daily and I know that many of you return every couple of days to see what’s new.

Since a lot of you are bloggers like me (and graphic designers/desktop publishers as well), I’d like to offer one of my original picture fonts, Bill’s Modern Diner, for the last decade one of the most popular.

I sell this font, for both Mac and PC, for $29.00. I will, however, send you a complete copy with keychart and both Mac and PC versions, for any donation to  Under The LobsterScope of $5.00 or more.

Here’s a font sample:

This is a font I use for menus and food articles and I’ve had occasion to use it just about every week since I created it.

So if you sign on to see Cartoon(s) of the Week, or Quotes, or views on Theatre and the Arts or any of the Political stuff presented on UTL, your contributions make all of these possible. I need to raise $300.00 by January 1 to make my goal.

If you feel you can support this blog,Please send a donation of $5.00 or more (more is better ) via PayPal:

Thanks for considering this…

– Bill

I really need your support to keep this blog going…

Contribute $5.00 or more and receive one of my classics, Bill’s Barnhart Ornaments, as a gift for supporting Under The LobsterScope.

In 2004 I started Under The LobsterScope during the election season. For six years I have presented the best liberal-oriented material I could find and my own comments on politics and the arts (and a few other subjects).

I need your support to keep this blog going… when I started I was employed and well-paid, but, as a result of the Bushified economy, I was more-or-less unemployed for four years, and now I have retired having reached early Social Security eligibility. Under The LobsterScope is my major achievement each day.

I’m asking if you will donate at least $5.00 to Under the LobsterScope. If you do, you get my picture font,Bill’s Barnhart Ornaments (usually priced at $29.00) , absolutely FREE OF CHARGE, sent to you immediately by e-mail. This font is based on the historic floral and decorative dingbats from the Turn of the Century Barnhart Brothers and Spindler Type Specimen Book. These are classic font images and not available anywhere else. I created the font over 22 years ago and it has been one of my best sellers ever since.

That’s it. $5.00 or more and I will send you this font (partial sample below) which is only available at my UTF Type Foundry site.

Even a small donation of $1 or $2 helps (although $5 helps a whole lot more…and gets you the font. Some folks who really like this blog give even more!) The amount is up to you. We accept contributions through PayPal and the credit/debit cards shown below.

Remember…All contributors of $5.00 or more receive a copy of my Picture Font, Bill’s Barnhart Ornaments (I send you the versions for both Macs and PCs, plus a handy keyboard chart). As I said, I regularly sell this font for $29.00

This offer will end on October 30th.

I appreciate those of you who have come on board every time I’ve put up a new Free Font and hope more of you will join in. Previous donors have received four of my Free Fonts…Bill’s Universal Symbols, Bill’s Cast O’Characters, Bill’s Dingbats and Bill’s Century Marks. Since several contributors have come back more than once, it is clear that this is viewed as a “good deal”.

So please click on the “Donate” button below:

Thanks,
Bill T.

Did everyone see this? Some Saturday Humor…

Sometimes when scooting around the web you find an article (this one in the UK) that really cheers you up.
clipped from www.telegraph.co.uk

A road sign warning of prostitutes is confusing motorists in an Italian town.

Road sign near Treviso, Italy, warning motorists to watch out for prostitutes
Road sign near Treviso, Italy, warning motorists to watch out for prostitutes
The red-bordered triangular sign shows a scantily-clad woman, who is also
carrying a handbag, in the city of Treviso in northern Italy.
The sign states ‘Attenzione Prostitute’ – seemingly warning people of
prostitutes in the area.
Motorists and pedestrians have complained that the sign is ‘confusing’, saying
they don’t know if it means to watch out for crossing hookers or if it means
prostitutes operate in the area.
One local Dino Vezino, 34, said: “I was driving in to work and saw this
sign and had to slow down to get a proper look.
“I couldn’t believe it – the woman has a mini-skirt and high heels on and
very big breasts.
“I just couldn’t work out what it was for?
“Does it mean I have to look out for prostitutes crossing or that they
are available around here?”

Kill The Kindle

My wife recently attended the AIGA graphic design conference and she tipped me off to this video: Kill The Kindle by graphic designer Charles Brock. The description at YouTube reads:

Charles Brock’s (almost) 60 second presentation at this year’s AIGA’s Make/Think conference. Being a book designer, Charles has an (*ahem) unique perspective on the Kindle. To clarify, nothing of value was destroyed in the making of this film.

Ready? Here it is:

I’ll top this off with one more piece of graphic designer’s humor from the AIGA conference. Famous graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister had the whole audience (including my wife who was surprised to see her head at the back of the audience where the camera was) on their feet singing that All Their Clients Drive Them Crazy. Enjoy:
