Boy, I’m sick of Spam…

Akismet, the spam removal software that’s put up by WordPress for bloggers using their program, is very efficient in removing comments that are meaningless, or advertising, or just inappropriate.

However, I check all spam comments to make sure no legitimate comments have been accidentally taken out ( less than 1% of them… pretty good record). Usually it only takes me a minute or less to run down the list and check them, but in the last couple of days I have taken the most outrageous comments and checked where they are coming from.

  1. I got one today from Busana Muslim, a clothing site, and now I’m sorry I clicked on the Avatar because they’ll know I looked and will never leave me alone.

I don’t get it, either. I guess it takes no effort to send thousands of those things to thousands of websites, but why? Do they really ever get enough bites to make it worthwhile?

  2. i use ASKIMET and it’s terrible or i’m doing something terribley wrong – i get probably 20 spams a day. I assume the idea is to get you to click through to their site (always included) to drive traffic.

  3. I recieved a great spam post yesterday – sadly deleted or I’d share it here – where the spammer had copy pasted 50 other spam comments into one post and replaced the links at random with their own. Utterly bizarre – it wouldn’t fool anyone.
